ARMSTRONG, BRITISH COLUMBIA - GWR Resources Inc. (TSX Venture: GWQ) announces that the initial 2009 drill hole (AZS09-11) on the Aurizon South area within the Company’s Lac La Hache property has successfully intersected the interpreted projection of the structure which hosts the previously reported high grade copper-gold intersected in hole AZS08-07 (see News Release dated Dec. 9, 2008).
Hole AZS08-07 was targeted on a modelled, deep Induced Polarization response, originally interpreted by project geologist Dr. D. Bailey as the westerly offset of the Aurizon Central zone.
The new results confirm the geological model derived from the previous drilling, whereby the hydrothermally brecciated, altered monzonite that hosts the high grade mineralization in Hole AZS08-07 is displaced westerly down-section, across a series of faults.
Hole AZS09-11 was collared 25 m east of the collar of hole AZS08-07, at the same collar dip (-60 degrees) but it steeped considerably as drilling progressed. As predicted, the hole encountered a wider intersection of altered monzonite than hole AZS08-07, with the bottom 5 meters cutting weakly mineralized hydrothermal breccia similar to that lying above the higher grade zone in hole AZS08-07. Unfortunately, while still in the hydrothermal breccia at 498 m downhole, difficult drilling conditions caused the NQ drill rods to jam. The Company plans to drill through the NQ using smaller diameter BQ rods, and expects to continue the hole successfully, to determine the width of the mineralized structure and possible associated mineralization at this depth. As a result of the steepening of hole AZS09-11, the hydrothermal breccia has been extended approximately 190 m vertically below that in hole AZS08-07.
While waiting for the delivery of BQ rods, the drill rig has commenced drilling hole AZS09-13, located 25 m north of hole AZS08-07. That rig will subsequently re-position over hole AZS09-11 after hole AZS09-13 has been completed.
In addition, a second drill rig is expected to commence drilling today in order to test additional targets within Aurizon South.
